Sri Lanka Off With a Winning Start

After losing the toss, the Sri Lankan team was put on to bat expecting that the team will bowled out for a lower score. But unfortunately for South African skipper Graeme Smith it didn’t go his way. Sri Lankan opener T. M. Dilshan and the captain Kumar Sangakkara put up the Sri Lankan score board by 158 for the second wicket. Dilashan made his third one century at the Super Sports Park, Centurian.

After the quick dismissals of Dilshan and Sangakkara, former skipper Jayawardane and Samaraweera made another 100 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Losing the two experienced batsman’s Sri Lankans could only made 319 runs losing 8 wickets. No body in the middle order could go for a big score.

Starting the SA inning the opener Hashim Amla could not hang on the wicket for a long as Angelo Mathews struck the first wicket for the SL taking Amla as his victim. Although the skipper and Jacques Kallis made the SA score board going on, the SA skipper could not carry out his brilliant performance for a long as the SL mystery bowler Ajantha Mendis started his wicket hunting with Graeme Smith.

Mendis captured three SA wickets which are the most important wickets of the SA team. In the mean time Mathews and the SL paceman Malinga took two each.

In the 38th over rain got over the ground and the play wasn’t able to continue for the rest of the overs. So the umpires have decided to finish the game with D/L. as to which the SL won the game by 55 runs giving colorful start for the tournament, making the hosts disappointing.
